NCDOT Installs SAU Men’s Outdoor Track & Field National Champion Sign
RALEIGH, N.C. (April 3) – The Saint Augustine’s University track & field program now has a highway championship sign highlighting its latest accomplishment.
On Wednesday, the N.C. Department of Education (NCDOT) erected a sign honoring the university’s 2017 NCAA Division II men’s outdoor track & field national championship team. The sign is located on I-440 near Exit 300, which is the Rock Quarry Road exit. The sign will stay up for two years.
The Falcons claimed the men’s outdoor national title in 2017 by winning the last race of the meet, the 4×400 relay, in Bradenton, Fla. They scored 58 points to outdistance Lincoln (Mo.) University (52 points), Ashland University (50 points) and Tiffin University (50 points).
The championship was the fifth straight for the SAU men. Overall, the Falcons and Lady Falcons have won 39 NCAA Division II indoor and outdoor national crowns combined. Legendary Head Coach George Williams has won the most NCAA national track and field championships of any coach, regardless of division.
