SAU Announces the Recipients of the NC Legislative Black Caucus Foundation Scholarship
North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus Foundation (NCLBCF) has provided support to higher education in North Carolina for more than 30 years by awarding need-based scholarships to students attending one of the 10 participating Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in North Carolina for over 30 years.
Each student had to meet the following criteria:
- 2.5 or better
- North Carolina resident
- Participation in social community activities
- Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
- Essay addressing ‘The Role of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in today’s Global Society.’
Congratulations to the following students who were selected to receive a $5,000, NC Legislative Black Caucus Foundation Scholarship for the 2022-2023 upcoming academic year:
A little about the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation honorarium to commemorate the unrivaled civil rights accomplishment of the late Dr. Andrea Harris. Dr. Harris has been a pioneer for racial and socioeconomic equity in North Carolina, spending more than four decades leading the charge for minority access in business. In 1986, with grants from The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation and the North Carolina Association of Minority Businesses, she co-founded the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development, now the National Institute of Minority Economic Development.
Dr. Harris made unprecedented strides in advocating for economic equity, particularly on behalf of African Americans, women, and other marginalized communities in North Carolina. Her contributions to the community economic development infrastructure in the state will reverberate for generations to come.
Andrea Harris Memorial Scholarship criteria each student had to meet the following criteria:
- 2.5 or better
- North Carolina resident
- Female
- Participation in social community activities
- Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
- Essay addressing ‘The Role of Women in Business and Nonprofits in Your Community.’
