Raleigh, North Carolina (February 18, 2019) – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA), in partnership with the Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF), has pledged an endowment in the amount of $100,000 to Saint Augustine’s University(SAU), as part of the organization’s AKA-HBCU Endowment Fund.

Later this month, SAU president Dr. Everett B. Ward will join other presidents of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) at the Alpha Kappa Alpha International Headquarters in Chicago, on February 28, to accept the first installment of their institutions’ awards.

“I look forward to attending this historic event along with other HBCU presidents and chancellors,” said president Dr. Everett B. Ward.” Receiving the installment during Black History Month reaffirms the valued legacy of Saint Augustine’s and other HBCUs.”

“Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has implemented the AKA-HBCU Endowment Fund with the goal of investing in the future of our young people and the sustainability of our treasured HBCUs,” said Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. International President, Dr. Glenda Glover. “Our organization has pledged to donate a total of $10 million towards the endowment and we are honored to provide Saint Augustine’s University the first  $50,000 during our February event as we celebrate Black History Month and the legacies of all HBCUs.”

“The sorority’s generosity towards Saint Augustine’s University and other HBCUs nationwide will allow our institutions to continue the mission of preparing our young people to become the leaders of tomorrow. This endowment will change the lives for many of our students, for years to come,” Dr. Ward added.

While in the “Windy City,” the HBCU administrators will have an opportunity to tour the AKA’s International headquarters in the Hyde Park neighborhood, on the South Side of Chicago.
