Saint Augustine’s University won the men’s 4×100-meter relay on the final day of the Raleigh Relays outdoor track and field meet at Paul Derr Track on Saturday, March 26.

The Falcons’ foursome of Brent Arceneaux, Shawn Rowe (Jr./West Palm Beach, FL), Burkheart Ellis, Jr. (Jr./Raleigh, NC) and Daniel Jamieson (Sr./Windsor, CT) crossed the finish line first in 40.04 seconds. George Mason University was second in 40.34 and host N.C. State University was third in 40.38.

The 4×100 victory gave Saint Augustine’s University three wins in the Raleigh Relays. On Friday, Shakinah Brooks (Jr./Raleigh, NC) won the women’s long jump and the men’s 1600-meter sprint medley squad of Jamieson, Ellis, Shaquille Dill (Fr./Pembroke, Bermuda) and Immanuel Hutchinson (Sr./San Jacinto, CA) captured its event.

Saturday’s win by the 4×100 men capped an outstanding day for the Falcons and Lady Falcons. The men’s 4×200-meter relay group of Jamieson, Ellis, Arceneaux and La’Kai Whatley (Fr./Rome, GA) won its heat and placed second overall in 1:23.87.

The women’s 4×400-meter relay quartet of Ornella Livingston (Sr./St. Ann, Jamaica), Ade Hunter (So./Philadelphia, PA), Leah Barker (So./St. Michaels, Barbados) and Tia-Adana Belle (Jr./St. George, Barbados) finished third overall in 3:42.61. The women’s 4×100-meter relay foursome of Shamia Lassiter (Sr./Chesapeake, VA) , Barker, Brooks and Livingston placed third overall in 45.48. They were one-thousandth of a second from finishing second. In the women’s 4×200-meter relay, the squad of Belle, Brooks, Lassiter and Livingston was sixth in 1:37.12.

Individually, Belle placed third in the women’s 100-meter hurdles finals in 13.73 and Shawn Rowe (Jr./West Palm Beach, FL) was fifth in the men’s 110-meter hurdles finals in 14.24. David Shaw (Sr./St. Pauls, NC) finished third and Jumonne Exeter (So./St. Vincent) placed fifth, respectively, in the men’s triple jump. Shaw leaped 50-0½ and Exeter jumped 49-3. In the women’s triple jump, Amenze Uhunmwangho (Sr./Ebo, Nigeria) finished sixth in 39-8½.

Former Falcons’ jumper DeJon Wilkinson was second in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 51-3¾. Wilkinson is a member of the G.W. Express/Nike team, which is coached by legendary Head Coach George Williams of Saint Augustine’s University. Williams has won the most NCAA track and field championships (37) of any coach, regardless of division.
