On Thursday, September 10, the School of Business, Management and Technology launched their Dean’s Speaker Series. The inaugural speaker was Mr. Chavarro Brown, a 2010 SAU alumnus whom was recently promoted to district manager for Mattress Firm in the Raleigh/Durham market.

During his presentation, Brown reflected on his time at Saint Augustine’s University and discussed the importance of networking and developing mentors and coaches that can assist one on his or her career journey. He also shared that many of the skills that he uses daily he learned not only in courses like accounting and international business at SAU, but also through the real-life examples provided by participation in student groups like the 100 Black Men, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Student Government Association.

In closing, Mr. Brown cautioned students about the ills of social media and the need to develop a brand and digital footprint that represents passionate and confident leaders that are able to navigate

a variety of situations and circumstances.

The next Dean’s Speaker Series is scheduled for October 29 in Boyer 011. Dr. William “Bill” Pickard, CEO of VITEC and Global Automotive Alliance, LLC will be the guest speaker.
