St. Aug Finishes Weekend 2-1 at CIAA Volleyball Round-Up II
Saint Augustine’s University posted a 2-1 record this past weekend at the CIAA Volleyball Round-Up II, which concluded Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Capel Arena on the campus of Fayetteville State University. The Lady Falcons defeated Bowie State University 25-12, 25-13, 25-13 and Lincoln (Pa.) University 25-11, 25-12, 25-17 Saturday, and lost to Virginia Union University 25-15, 22-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-8 Sunday.
Against Bowie State, Victoria Davis (Sr./San Diego, Calif.) led the Lady Falcons with 11 kills while Skyla Isidore (Jr./Morne Castries, St. Lucia) and Olivia Porter (Fr./Bakersfield, Calif.) added eight and seven kills, respectively. Julieesa Thomas (Soph./St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) gave out 20 assists and Kayla Cason (Fr./Virginia Beach, Va.) had eight digs. Isadore added three blocking assists. Yaje Ngundum led the Lady Bulldogs with four kills and six digs.
Against Lincoln, (Pa.), Davis paced the Lady Falcons with 12 kills while Porter and Isidore added 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Thomas dished out 29 assists and Cason recorded 13 digs. Isidore tallied three blocking assists while Temperance Jacobs (Fr./McDonough, Ga.) and Porter each had two blocking assists. Cynthia Johnson led the Lady Lions with six kills.
Against Virginia Union, Porter led the way for the Lady Falcons with 12 kills and Isidore added 11 kills. Thomas totaled 28 assists and Cason had 18 digs. Brooke Morris (Fr./Norwalk, Conn.) had two solo blocks and two blocking assists for the Lady Falcons. Kristin Madison sparked the Lady Panthers with 18 kills.
The Lady Falcons’ record is 4-7 overall, 4-4 in the CIAA and 1-1 in the Southern Division as they head toward a home match against division foe Fayetteville State University on Thursday, October 3, 2013. The match starts at 6 p.m. at Emery Gymnasium on campus. Admission is free.
