The SAUCPD Notified of Compliance with the USDOJ Safe Policing for Safe Communities Memorandum from the North Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (NCLEAP)
The Saint Augustine’s University Campus Police and Public Safety Department received a Notification of Compliance with the United States Department of Justice (USDOJ) Safe Policing for Safe Communities Memorandum from the North Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (NCLEAP) dated January 21, 2021. The Compliance Memorandum signifies we have satisfied the requirements of Presidential Executive Order (PEO) 13929 “Safe Policing for Safe Communities” and have exhibited the ability to apply the requirement of an agency.
PEO 13929 was issued on June 16, 2020 and mandates “the state or local law enforcement agency’s use-of-force policies adhere to all applicable Federal, State, and local laws; and an agency’s use-of-force policies prohibits the use of chokeholds, a physical maneuver that restricts an individual’s ability to breathe for the propose of incapacitation, except in those situations where the use of deadly force is allowed by law.”
Law Enforcement agencies not in compliance with the PEO are prohibited from receiving Federal Funding and related grants. By receiving this Notification of Compliance from the USDOJ Safe Policing for Safe Communities Memorandum, this further validates the commitment of the Saint Augustine’s University Campus Police and Public Safety Department. Our continuing promise is to ensure our dedication to a constructive and proficient relationship with our students, faculty, staff, and community. We promote transparency in our policies and procedures and adhere to Federal, State, and local laws.
