Local community members are rallying behind one of its historically black colleges/universities (HBCUs). Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) received a $3,100 donation from the Chinese American Economic & Culture Association (CAECA) to support its faculty and staff.

“We appreciate the Chinese American Economic & Cultural Association’s generous contribution towards assisting our faculty and staff during this challenging time,” said SAU Interim President Dr. Marcus H. Burgess. “The unwavering support of CAECA exemplifies the spirit of compassion and solidarity that transcends cultural boundaries.”

In response to a request for assistance from SAU Assistant Professor of Chinese Lena Wang-Anthony, a group of eight people, including Niu Zhiwen, Chairman of CAECA, John Wei, Founding Chairman Lisa Huang, Directors Ren Ping, and Zhao Ming, drove to the SAU’s campus last Friday morning to meet with the school leaders and all donations were made.

“I know very well that you have gone through hardships, so we are sending you some gift cards and some cash,” said Zhiwen in a statement. “We are trying to establish a connection between you and the association so that we can get involved anytime you have any difficulties, be a part of your university family, and hopefully we’ll be in regular communication so you can get through it!” The donation, arranged by Mr. John Wei, the founding chairman of CAECA, reaffirmed the importance of community support by providing 35 gift cards with a face value of $20 and another $2,400 in cash, totaling $3,100.
