SAU Launches its Falcon Flight to Teaching Teacher Residency Program
Downed power lines from a heavy rainstorm, Internet loss, and an imminent snowstorm couldn’t stop us from launching our Falcon Flight to Teaching Teacher Residency program today. We held our first meeting together despite it all. Pictured in the gallery are Ms. Melody Moore, Master Teacher at Partnership Magnet Elementary School and Falcon Flight to Teaching Mentor Teacher; Dr. M. Iyailu Moses, Residency Program Director; Ms. Nicole Lee, SAU Field Coordinator; and our newest teacher preparation candidate, Ms. Breann Bannister. A senior education major, Breann will spend the year with Ms. Moore observing, assisting, and participating in authentic learning experiences and student teaching.
The Falcon Flight to Teaching Teacher Residency program was initiated by funding through the National Center for Teacher Residencies (NCTR). NCTR’s core belief is that teachers who have year-long experiences under the guidance of a mentor teacher are more likely to return to their local communities as teachers and are more likely to remain in the profession. This expanded year-long experience furthers the SAU Department of Education’s mission to prepare teachers who are educational change agents for culturally and exceptionally diverse 21st-century students.
