SAU Visual Art Majors Assist with Public Art Installation
Bronte Weatherford and Nahala Moore, Juniors in the SAU’s Visual Arts Program, enjoyed the sunshine as they assisted renown artist DeWitt Godfrey install his artwork in Dorothea Dix Park. From the laying of the foundation to the placing of the final cylinder, the students learned loads about the process of installing a major piece of public art. The installation of this massive sculpture began on March 11th. The artwork will be on view for park visitors in April. The sculpture is composed of eighty cylinders of various sizes and shapes layered on top of one another. This horizontal sculpture is composed specifically for the Dix Park site and emphasizes the gentle slope of the Park’s landscape. This installation is one of DeWitt Godfrey’s largest to date.
